ABOUT MARTY COOKE

Husband. Father.
Conservative Leader You Can Trust.
Marty Cooke has dedicated his public service to protecting what makes Brunswick County a great place to live. That means safe communities, responsible government, and a strong coastal way of life.

As a countywide elected commissioner, Marty has focused on fiscal responsibility, public safety, and long-term planning that puts residents first and keeps county government accountable.

A Record of Responsible Leadership

Marty’s work on the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners has centered on coastal issues, emergency management, mental health services, law enforcement, and public safety. He has consistently supported policies that keep the county financially strong, maintain one of the lowest property tax rates in North Carolina, and prioritize core services for families and seniors.
His approach is straightforward. Plan carefully. Spend responsibly. Protect taxpayers from unnecessary costs.

Protecting Our Coast and Coastal Economy

Beyond county government, Marty is a strong advocate for North Carolina’s working coastline. He serves on the board of the North Carolina Coastal Counties Fisheries Coalition, which works to ensure fisheries management decisions are based on sound science and real-world coastal conditions.
Marty is also working to establish a dredge permanently based in southeastern North Carolina. This effort would help keep inlets open, improve navigation safety, support commercial and recreational fishing, assist with beach nourishment, and protect water quality in nearby estuaries.

Experience Beyond Government

Marty brings real-world experience to public service. He has owned and managed businesses, worked extensively in television production and communications, and taught at the high school, community college, and university levels. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in digital media and communication and as a governmental liaison for EnviRemed Environmental, LLC.
His background outside of politics informs a practical, results-driven approach to leadership.

Education, Family, and Community

Marty earned his undergraduate degree from The Citadel and a graduate degree in communication from Regent University, with additional doctoral studies in leadership. He is a fellow of the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership and a Leadership Ambassador with the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.

Married to his wife Catherine for more than 40 years, Marty is a proud father of four and a long-time Brunswick County resident. His public service is guided by accountability, experience, and a deep commitment to protecting the character and future of coastal North Carolina.
